Common Tansy

COMMON TANSY
(Garden tansy)

Habitat: Roadsides, stream banks, pasture, and distrubed habitats.

Description: The common tansy is an aromatic perennial that grows .4 to 1.5 m tall.  The stems are often a purplish red colour.  The leaves are deeply divided and dark green.  They alternate and are narrow in size.  The flowers are yellow "button" flowers that cluster at the top of the plant.  They spread by both seed and by root.  They are an undesirable forage and may be toxic to livestock.

Control Practices:

1. Mowing before flowering and seed-set can be helpful.

2. Chemical control is also another option.
