Purple Loosestrife

PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE
(Lythrum)


Habitat: Along rivers, streams, sloughs and ditches.


Description: Purple Loosestrife is a perennial that will reach 1.2 to 2 meters in height.  The leaves are smooth edged on a square stalk.  They bloom from June to September on long, pink/purple spikes.  Seeds are dispersed by water, mud, aquatic wildlife, livestock and humans.  The resilient root system aids in yearly growth if upper plant is destroyed.
