What is Civic Addressing?

Civic Addressing is a province-wide standardized system of identifying and locating properties by establishing unique access point locations. This system is used to assist emergency responders such as police, fire, and ambulance in finding residences and businesses quickly in the event of an emergency. 

In the case of an emergency, dial 911 and provide the operator with your Civic Address and Emergency responders will be able to quickly navigate to your property.

It is advised to also provide your legal land location and any landmarks that will assist emergency responders in locating your property. Please ensure all members of your family or employees of your business know your Civic Address. It is advised to post your Civic Address near the phone for quick reference.

Your Civic Address IS NOT a mailing address*. Civic Addresses can be provided to individuals, businesses, and services to assist in navigation to your property.

*A Civic Addresses may be part of a mailing address in some locations where a developer registered their development with Canada Post.

How do I get a Civic Address?

For new single parcel subdivisions, Civic Addresses are assigned as a part of the Approach Application process. Follow this link: Approach Approval and Construction for more information and to download the Approach Application / Civic Address Application Form.

For new multi-parcel subdivisions / developments, Civic Addresses are assigned as a part of the development review and servicing agreement process.

If your parcel of land was developed prior to January 1, 2020 you should already have been assigned a Civic Address and have had a sign installed. If you do not have a Civic Address or Sign please contact the R.M. office via email: rm344@rmcormanpark.ca, phone: 306-242-9303, or online form.

What is my Civic Address / How do I Find it?

You can find your Civic Address in 3 ways:

(a) Checking the Civic Address sign installed at the primary approach to your residence / business*

(b) Checking the address given in your tax notice**

(c) Contacting the R.M. Office 

*new address signs are blue but sign colour can vary and other markings may be used depending on the location / age of a development.

**not all tax notices will list a Civic Address until 2025. If there is a discrepancy between your physical sign and the address given in your tax notice please contact the R.M. Office. 

Who is Responsible for Installing and Maintaining my Civic Address sign?

As per Civic Addressing Bylaw 09/19:

For all Civic Address Signs for Parcels of Land that are assigned a Civic Address on or after January 1, 2020, Owners or Developers shall pay the costs associated with the supply and installation of Civic Address Signs.

For single Parcels of Land, the Municipality shall be responsible for all supply and installation of Civic Address Signs.

For Multi-Parcel Subdivisions, the Developer shall be responsible for the supply and installation of Civic Address Signs in accordance with such specifications as may be established by the Municipality.

All Civic Address Signs shall remain the property of the Municipality and the Municipality shall be responsible for all maintenance of Civic Address Signs.

The Municipality shall be responsible for all costs relating to the supply and installation of Civic Address Signs for:

(a) all single Parcels of Land that have been assigned a Civic Address prior to January 1, 2020; and

(b) all Parcels of Land within a Multi-Parcel Subdivision that is registered prior to January 1, 2020 where Civic Addresses have been assigned.

How Does the Civic Addressing System Work?

For properties along Township and Range Roads, Civic Addresses are determined based on the distance of an approach from the intersection at the southeast corner of a section.

Typically, Civic Address Numbers will be an even number if your approach is on the west or south side of the road and an odd number if your approach is on the east or north side of the road. 

For properties along a Highway or Named roads, Civic Addresses are determined based on the distance of an approach from the start of the Highway or Named road.

Properties accessed via roads within multi-parcel subdivision follow an urban addressing system model.

Areas with pre-established systems of Civic Addressing have been grandfathered in where it was determined that the addressing was compatible enough with provincial Civic Addressing standards as to not cause confusion for emergency responders.
